Welcoming, Worshiping

The Episcopal Branch of the Jesus Movement

The Episcopal Church of the United States

The Episcopal Church is one of the many worldwide churches that fall under the heading of “Anglican,” with the Church of England being our mother church. The Archbishop of Canterbury is our unifying, symbolic leader. Closer to home, in the United States, the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church is somewhat like the Archbishop of Canterbury. But neither one exercises the kind of power that the Pope does for the Roman Catholic Church. Rather, with other bishops, they are “first among equals.” Christ the King Church is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield, which extends from Rantoul in the northeast corner of Illinois to Cairo in the far south. The Bishop’s offices and cathedral are in Springfield.

Our worship is primarily guided by The Book of Common Prayer 1979. Our scripture readings at worship are found in the lectionary contained within The Book of Common Prayer.
